Following [re]Think: Hawaii, TEDxHonolulu, and an unplugged retreat to Molokai, the Cornbreads were focused and eager to produce media. We attended a local networking mixer and before the event officially started we were wrapping up a deal to be bloggers for the Honolulu Advertiser’s “one-stop local entertainment guide on where to go and what to do in Honolulu, from the hottest restaurants and bars, to the latest in events, music, movies, style, and TV,” — Metromix Honolulu.
Fresh from the grill
Our Metromix blog posts will be about our lives, the adventures, adversities, antics, (but not so much alliteration) we encounter throughout Honolulu and during our travels. Fresh from the grill is for everyone, not just the sexy people because we’re not judgmental, in fact we’re equal opportunists, but if you’re sexy move up to the front.

Part of building your community is giving back, and Grilled Cornbread, LLP is very proud to announce our involvement with the 18th Annual Deaf Santa Celebration at Pearlridge Center.
The State of Hawaii Department of Education has approximately 120 students in schools throughout the islands whose first language is American Sign Language. In years past, the DOE would fly the neighbor island students to Oahu to participate in the Christmas festivities at Pearlridge Center including an opportunity to give their wish lists to the State’s only deaf Santa.
Unfortunately, like many other industries, the DOE is facing economic hardship and instead of grinching the experience for neighbor island children — they’ve embraced technology and innovation. The Cornbreads are proud to provide our livestream services on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to view the activities live on the Pearlridge website and participate in the chat room or if you’re in the neighborhood come on down to experience the connection between the children and Santa — without words, but genuine expressions.

The day after hosting the TechKaraoke party, most of us hopped on a plane for an unplugged retreat on the island of Molokai. Our spacious rooms at the Hotel Molokai were comped by Aqua Hotels and Resorts and the hotel’s General Manager, Michael Drew.

Reflections of an unplugged weekend:
“This was not my first trip to Moloka’i. From age 12-14, I spent every summer camping out on the east side of Moloka’i, so I was very well acquainted with the island and local culture. It had been 17 years since I had step foot on Moloka’i, and I was happy to see that not much had changed. Amber picked me up from the airport, and I recounted some of my adolescent Moloka’i adventures during the car ride to the hotel (She is encouraging me to write about my time on the Friendly Isle). I made note of the few changes around town as we drove through Kaunakakai. The old video store had since closed and the building it was in replaced by small shops. From the looks of it, the old drive-in where I first discovered mixing Ketchup and Mustard for french fries, had been closed for a while. Less than a block away was the somewhat new looking Moloka’i Burger, and a small strip mall with a pizza parlor.” — A Weekend Unplugged, Ed Morita

Molokai inspires:
“As the end of our unplugged retreat neared it was clear that we did not want to leave. This will be difficult to understand, but despite being in the same time zone, it seemed as if Molokai was a few hours behind. And, it was refreshing. If you want to rejuvenate your mind and soul; focus on team building; open up the arteries of creativity; or just escape from your usual routine — then book a flight to Molokai and a room at the Hotel Molokai and leave your phone, laptop, and agenda at home. Molokai inspires.
